The Prior Lake girls soccer team remained unbeaten following two victories last week, including a win over one of the state’s top-ranked teams.
The Lakers earned a 4–1 win over section opponent Waconia on Aug. 26. Ellie Ohlmann scored twice and added two assists, while Gianna Stiehm and Ali Torres also found the back of the net. Torres added an assist and was named “Player of the Game.” Prior Lake controlled play throughout in a decisive victory over a section opponent.
Prior Lake followed with a 3–1 hard fought victory over then No. 2–ranked White Bear Lake. Ohlmann opened the scoring in the first half on a feed from Teagan Jurek. After White Bear Lake tied the game early in the second half, the Lakers responded with late goals from Ohlmann and Mila Macias to put the game away. Jurek assisted on Ohlmann’s second goal as well, while defender Taylor Hendrickson earned “Player of the Game” honors for her defensive effort.
With the 4-0 start including over two top two ranked opponents, Prior Lake has moved all the way up to #3 in the state Class AAA coach’s rankings coming into this week.
Prior Lake will have a busy week following the Labor Day holiday. The Lakers played their first road game of the season on Tuesday at Mounds View before the team returns home to face Apple Valley on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m. The Lakers will then play Eden Prairie in a noon match on Saturday at Dan Patch Stadium.
